It has been said again and again that social injustices in Kenya are the biggest mines that are bound to explode sooner than later. Social injustices exist in many forms but most pronounced as economic exploitation. There are those who were traditionally privileged e.g. the clerks and home guards in the colonial administration, who took the reigns of power at independence. The injustices in the form of social marginalization perpetuated by successive governments explain why Kenya remains highly polarized along tribal lines. In 2010, I wasted my money and time going to vote to ensure Kenya Realizes a new constitution. I knew that the new constitution puts in place mechanisms that entrench the rule of law.     Laws are important to the extent they embody the spirit and aspirations of the people. However, having a constitution is one thing but entrenching constitutionalism is another ball game all together. While we celebrated the realization of the new constitution, we forgot that constitutions only work if people are willing to subject themselves to the constitution. Why am I already disappointed? We have come full circle and today, the Jubilee government will be inaugurated. Being the last day of Kibaki’s regime, it is not bad to look ahead and splash our wish lists. I know there are many wish lists being thrown left and right and most of them are interest vested lists. For them whose time it is to eat or continue eating, we wish them all the best. However, life is short and the beauty of life is neither in getting time to eat but just being a live to witness it all. We are glad we are alive and we shall bear witness. They say that in every problem are the seed for its resolution and every tyranny has in itself seeds of self destruction. Therefore, I trust that the challenges the Jubilee government is likely to face are the issues that can make that regime the best thing to have happened to Kenya.
